Replay is strong in both; engineering evidence and data operations separate them

Pendo Session Replay can synchronize console and network logs, create issues, and use Replay Triage to group errors and failed requests against a codebase. That is useful evidence, but not the same category as PostHog Error Tracking and Logs.

The implementation burden is different, not absent

Pendo begins with a snippet or SDK, visitor and account identity, metadata, and product tagging. Teams can then define product objects, segments, reports, and guides in the interface. Ongoing guide work needs less engineering, but identity, tagging, changing interfaces, mobile frameworks, and governance still need owners.

PostHog begins with an SDK, capture choices, identity, deliberate events, groups, flags, and environments. Its broader platform requires engineering decisions about event quality, experiments, source maps, warehouse models, cost, and safeguards. Both need a product analytics instrumentation plan.

Mobile and desktop require a framework-level check

Pendo documents web and native-mobile analytics, guides, and replay. Other desktop, TV, or point-of-sale environments use developer-sent Track Events and cannot display guides. PostHog supports web and mobile SDKs; desktop implementations remain framework-dependent. Verify the exact framework.

Self-hosting is an operational decision, not a free-price row

PostHog's MIT hobby deployment is unsupported: customers own infrastructure, scale, security, storage, upgrades, backups, and recovery. Cloud-only gaps include Group Analytics, Data Pipelines, multi-environment flags, group experiments, advanced surveys, and enterprise governance. PostHog's guidance recommends Cloud for most organizations.
